Weaving together what we call ‘kitchen table philosophy’ through literary expression in the form of creative essays, poetry, storytelling, and occasional photograph or illustration, the idea behind the project is that the thoughts and inspirations on how to exist, strive, and prosper that come from people from all walks of life are able to be a guiding and connecting force in the modern world. Free Folk aims to be a decentralized but connected network of ideas, stories, and visions that inspire hope, gratitude, and activity.
Luna Arteaga-Laak is a multidisciplinary artist who draws her inspiration from nature, poetry, and the everyday wonder of life. In the last year she completed an artist residency in ceramics at Free Columbia, worked as a kindgergarten teacher, and is currently completing a collection of oil and watercolor paintings. She lives in Philmont, New York.
Gabel Cramer is a sometimes potter/musician/writer/artist who currently lives in Philmont, New York and works as the Director of Development for Free Columbia. He is inspired by the intersections of art, community, consciousness, and economics, and has enjoyed working on projects that weave together these realms. He has an MA in Community Development and Planning from Clark University, and greatly enjoys speculative fiction.
Free Folk is an independent publication devoted to literature as a force for connection and expression—a gathering place where we can witness one another and contribute with honesty, attention and heart. In a time of great uncertainty and pain, we create a space to remember and return to one another’s wisdom.
